RCA Victoria Record, Radio, 8-Track Player Hacked

So I bought this old record cabinet at Mega Thrift for $12.50 hoping that I could get a needle and play some old thrift store record I have picked up over the years.I think a bought a myth or a lie or something because NO ONE MAKES FREAKIN NEEDLES FOR THIS THING!! I found one needle that might work for $80!! Skip that!! So I gutted the thing and turned it into the biggest, coolest, retroest iPod dock ever!!

Here is the final result!

I cut out all the stuff I didn’t need like the turn table, the 8-track player and the radio. I kept the amps and the EQ intact. Then I moved all of the necessary equipment up under the ride side of the piece, leaving the middle hollow and empty for liquor case to be installed later. After I did that I re-wired the power so it powers the amps plus has a power USB cable to plug into the iPod dock itself. Then I wired a stereo mini jack cable into the rca tape inputs for the sweet tunes to flow through. Finally I replaced the ugly, old fabric covering the speakers.

Here are a bunch more pictures showing the process.

Dude, that’s awesome. Hilary’s parents ran into the same problem trying to restore their record player. It just wasn’t worth spending almost a hundred bucks on a stupid needle!
